About Us

Stephanie Schacht (she/they) started Purpose Ops in 2020 to help mission-focused organizations sustain and scale their impact. Since that time, she has worked with many small- and mid- sized social enterprises and nonprofits to build out new programs and initiatives as well as refine their systems.

Stephanie brings the intellectual horsepower and curiosity of a social scientist, the grit of a fellow manager and leader ready to roll up their sleeves, and the heart of an emotionally aware human being. Stephanie’s work is guided in liberatory and equitable frameworks, and she enjoys collaborating with people who bring a variety of lived experiences to their work.

Prior to starting Purpose Ops, Stephanie held GM, Head of Customer Success, and Head of Responsible Seller Growth roles at high growth, mission-driven companies (Honor, Aunt Bertha, Etsy). She completed her PhD in the Princeton Department of Sociology where she did both ethnographic fieldwork and statistical research on organizations and culture. Her undergraduate study was at Vanderbilt University in Economics, English Literature, and East Asian Studies.

In other lives: she’s taught business students, design students, and undergrads in NYC and Princeton; was a fellow in corporate governance in Norway; has been interviewed by The New Yorker and The New York Times; and did macro-level analysis at Fidelity Investments in Boston. She’s traveled to some 60 countries, speaks fading Japanese and passable Spanish, and grew up a working-class kid, an experience that shaped both her roll-up-her-sleeves work ethic as well as her desire to shape systems toward everyone’s thriving.

Please tell us about you - we can’t wait to meet you!
